Moalboal beginning of 2001
Hello People!!
WEATHER:
We had a fairly strong typhoon here in the beginning of December. No big drama, but Cebu was without electricity for 2 days. Sea Explorer and Globe diversÿ boats sank down to the outriggers with their outboard engines on. Savedras small boat was totally damaged. Austrian Nick had just bought 70 kilos of meat in the city so he was not too happy about the brown out.
ACTIVITIES:
The sunken island buoy is now installed (again). With a bit of luck it might stay there for a year or two.
The concrete road that was to be ready in November is actually happening. It's now 200 meters past the Islacom teletower. Once the election is over they will probably stop, but we should be happy for every meter.
BIRTHS, SOCIAL AND GOSSIP:
The whale sharks here are spotted about twice a week these days. Globe diver spotted 3 at Pescador and Clemens with customers spotted two at Sunken Island the other day. I think I'm the only one that have not seen one (but then again someone told me that you actually have to be in the water to see one :-) )
The soccer games every Monday and Friday are a hit. If you want to join us: just show up at the grass field in Moalboal around 16:30. White beach Sundays with BBQ, volleyball, sun and beer are being organized by Jack. Just show up and have fun. Last Sunday Neptune came with their boat and we were 23 foreigners/girlfriends and a few kids. I think most dive shops should have their afternoon dive at white beach and then have BBQ there.
Moalboal's oldest diver, Horst (77) is back again. Diving at Nelson and always with a smile on his face.
LETTERS FROM ABROAD:
Rick Festa, Larry's brother, wants to tell us that he now has made a home page for the Festa Fantasy Island resort. http://www.hompages.go.com/~festa . If you want to check other homepages you can always go to the excellent http://www.moalboal.org.uk/ that is designed and run by Simon.
PARTY:
We had many parties here during Christmas. I think EVE's had the best one though. Everybody ended up in the pool, even Nelson and Jerry. Jack thought it was so much fun to throw ppl. in the pool so he made several trips to Lloyds across the street to find girls he could get wet.
Mark, Honda, Eugene, Steve and I started the New years celebration with finishing one crate of beer under water (a Nelson dive shop tradition). Around noon most of the ppl here made it to White beach for BBQ, Beer and Volleyball. In the evening the biggest parties were at Nelsons and Visaya divers who had a 40,000 peso fireworks display.
