Basdiot Fiesta Edition, Moalboal April / May 2003

Hi, Friends of Moalboal!!
Even though we are getting fewer tourists this season, the guys that
stay here all the time have more fun then ever. Not a lot of tourists
but most of the bars are full and there's a divers at Pescador every
day. I went diving there today and I truly believe that the diving is
at it's best this time of the year. For a cold-water wimp like me, 28-
29 Celsius is just fine. Good visibility and lots of fish (I saw a
shark today)

WEATHER:
A bit above 30 degrees, sunshine and blue skies every day. You
should come and visit.

ACTIVITIES:

BIRTHS, SOCIAL AND GOSSIP:

Jesper (Swedish, owner Neptune dive shop) just got a son together
with Lebeth (off course). Good-looking dude named Edan. The funny
thing is that Chikako and I saw the kid before Jesper. Jesper, that
just turned 36, was also in the hospital but his back was so bad
(it's better now) that he could not get out of bed. Double
congratulations Jesper.

Miss Banana, Lyn-Lyn Banani, has opened a hair Salon close to
the "Last filling station". Next door there is also a newly opened
mini bar "The Smack Bar".

The Sea Quest team, with Mario as their main anchor, won the Fiesta
basketball tournament.

Because of some trouble, the Badian golf course is now closed but we
hope it will open this coming fall.

ARRIVING / ARRIVED:

Well, it's more like leaving, left. Most of the homeboys will head
for Europe in the beginning of May.

LETTERS:

what about "NEWS" from Moalboal ?
I,am waiting for them like my daily newspaper "STUTTGARTER ZEITUNG"
Rainer Schaal

WHALE SHARK SIGHTINGS:
Four new spottings since last letter. Ellen (German lady with the
nice dog) saw her second one at Balay reef.

FOOD:

I have not been to all the restaurants, and by making a list; I will
forget to mention some restaurants. Anyhow, these are my favorites
here in Panagsama:

Fish: Quo Vadis, fish file in herb sauce. Tell them you want Lapu-Lapu
Pork cordon blue: Neptune restaurant, lots of cheese
Wiener schnitzel: Surface Interval, nice crispy batter. Tell Sarah do
fry the French-fries a bit longer so they get crispy.
Pizza: Italian corner, they are not even half as good as they were
when Dino was making them. But they are still good.
Kinilaw: Eve's restaurant. Nice big chunks of raw fish. Make sure to
order one day in advance.
Local food you should try before leaving: Guisado, Apretada and Adobo

Please write to me if there's a good dish that you would like to tell
everybody about, and I will add it to the list.

Sorry, I've been to lazy, no new ones.
LETTERS FROM ABROAD:

LARS TROPICAL TIP:

If you are only staying here for one month or so and usually have
problem with your stomach, I would recommend you to buy a 20-liter
refillable water bottle. I drink about 2 liters of tap water every
day, but it might be good if you want to be on the safe side.

When shopping at SM-city in Cebu. Make sure to take look in the
Surplus shop. Normally you can find Polo, Tommie H and export over
run cloths like that for 3-4 dollars.

GENERAL:

If anyone has any information that they think would be interesting
for people on this list, please do let me know and I will add it in.
If you know anyone that would like to receive this letter, please
tell him or her to send me an E-mail at the address below and I will
add him or her. I've found it to hard to do it through
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/moalboalmail

Best regards,

Lars Starner.
