Moalboal March 2004
Hi, Friends of Moalboal!!
Life here in paradise goes on in a nice slow rhythm. Not a lot of
tourists here but some dive shops actually have more divers this
season than last. Everybody is not doing that good though; Sub
Maldive gave up last month. Nelsons Dive shop bought their boat and
compressor. It looks like Nelson is collecting dive boats, hahaha.
Hopefully, this season will be the turning point and the next season
the Liberando buses will be full of backpackers.
WEATHER:
About 29 degrees, sunshine and blue skies every day. You should come
and visit.
ACTIVITIES:
Volleyball at white beach every Sunday around two O'clock. Steve (co-
owner Chili) is now also pushing for volleyball on Wednesdays,
starting 15:00 at WB.
Soccer every Monday and Friday, starting 16:30. (Please observe the
new starting time.
Chili will most probably arrange a trip to CEBU March 30Žth.
Shopping, go cart race, unlimited Pizza and beer at a very
reasonable price. Sign up at Chili Bar.
BIRTHS, SOCIAL AND GOSSIP:
Bernd and Ailen had their Moalboalwedding party at Eve's a couple of
weeks ago and they announced that Ailen was pregnant
Rowena & Jurgen, had their wedding party / disco last Saturday at
Pacitas. It was nice to be at Pacitas and disco again, much better
than having disco in a bunker, fresh air and sea view. By the way,
Rowena is pregnant.
Meneth and Tomas (German terrible Tomas) will have a baby in 8
months.
Moalboal used to be for drinkers with a diving problem but these
days it appears to be more for making love without a condom :)
WHALE SHARK SIGHTINGS:
There is now a form you can fill out on the Chili notice board when
you've seen a whale shark. Any scuba diver, DM or Instr. that have
seen a whale shark will get a free Ning-Ning that day, at Chili.
Ning-Ning, a true Moalboal classic, is a rum based drink with secret
ingredients.
Dive shops: please send your divers to Chili so that we can get a
record of all the whale sharks. Later, there should be big adds in
the Dive magazines: MOALBOAL, THE DIVE PLACE WHERE YOU CAN SEE WHALE
SHARK TEN MONTH OUT OF TWELVE.
In February we spotted whale sharks at least 14 times here.
You can also read this news letter on the same notice board.
LETTERS FROM ABROAD:
I haven't got much to say really except "keep up the good work". I'm
still trying to keep the Moalboal site at least a bit updated -
thanks to Horrible Bob, Michael and Peter from Sea Explorers who
sent me some updates. Come on guys, how about all the rest of you
with digital
cameras and lots of time? How about some photos?? We need to know
out
here - how good is Chili (with photos)? Where is the coldest beer on
the Beach (with photos)? Who won the last football match (with
photos)?
Anyway, in an attempt to make the site a bit more topical, I've put
up
a discussion forum for people to ask questions, discuss, put up
gossip etc. etc. You know my style I hope, not too serious! You can
access it from the "discussion forum" link on our home page - yes
you should know it by now but I have moved the site around a bit
over the last year or two, so here it is again:
(I should really adjust the Javascript on the entry page since it
doesn't display quite right in some browsers).
You don't have to register to post to the forum and I'd be grateful
if
some of you lot with reasonable (don't think I can say good since
I've just moved to ADSL here!) Internet access could keep an eye on
it and help out people who ask questions. The forum went up on
Saturday and already there's been . . . wait for it, wait for
it . . . ONE whole question!!!!!
OK, great oaks from little acorns grow, so we'll give it a while yet!
That's all I suppose, some of us have to be up at 06.00 tomorrow and
still 4 days to go until the weekend :-( Any suggestions for a
holiday destination later in the year? MOALBOAL I hear you shout.
Well perhaps ;-)
All the best to all,
Regards,
Simon.
LARS TROPICAL TIP:
This one comes from Mike (Co-owner Chili). When you get a small
wound, scratch, bad mosquito bite. Clean the place thoroughly, dry
it and put a strip of œ inch Microphore (a 3M product, you can buy
it at the local pharmacy) over the wound. You can swim and shower
with it on but air will go through. Leave it until it falls off by
itself.
ACCORDING TO NELSON (our diving politician)
After the new market is finished, they have now torn down many of
the old makeshift stalls and replaced with concrete; the next big
project is to build a dome over the tennis court by the Municipal
hall. The dome will be mainly for basketball.

for people on this list, please do let me know and I will add it in.
