Moalboal 2009

Hi, friends of Moalboal!!

A New Year and we are all looking a bit tired here on the beach.
Christmas parties, New Years Eve parties, Birthday parties, Welcome
parties, Good bye parties, Pool tournament beer, Soccer beer and
White Beach parties???..just to mention a few. Then we all try to fit
diving, action and sun in somewhere in-between.

I've had my parents here. I dove with my 75 year old dad and had a
good time. Does anyone know, who is the oldest person to ever dive in
Moalboal?

Panagsama is very cool. No matter if you are old or young; everybody
sits down and talks to everybody??..age does not matter. In the
western world we seldom talk to anyone 5 years younger or older.

We have had cold weather; some places here in the Philippines have
broken records that were 40 years old. Coldest here on the beach was
20.9?..and that is COLD.

As of today, we are 382 readers of the Moalboal mailing List.

ACTIVITIES:

Moalboal Pool championship every Wednesday at Chili Bar starting
20:30. Champion last Wednesday was Marco, Swedish. Before that it was
Martin that for the first time in 5 years and many tries, managed to
win. Elvie was very proud over her husband.

Jochen, Planet Action, is still making sure that there's soccer every
Monday and Friday up in Moalboal. If you want to play, just show up
16:30. Last Friday they were 20 players.

BIRTHS, SOCIAL AND GOSSIP:

Steve, owner of Chili Bar, just had a daughter back in England with
Marife.
Mike, owner of Chili Bar, just had a son together with Maricel. His
name is Zaxon

Torsten, owner of lipay lipay bar, has now closed down the bar. He is
now instead making the bar into a backpacker's hostel. That is good.
We need more budget accommodation and fun back packers on the beach.

PRACTICAL:

February 14, the Governor Gwen Garcia will come to Moalboal and open
the new water well. They found a new well up in the mountains and we
all hope that the water problem will now be solved. Knowing the
Philippines though, I will still keep my water tank.

There is now a list at the notice board in Chili Bar where you can
tell your friends to sign up for the newsletter. Or just have them
send me an e-mail.

Cebu is the first Province in the Philippines to try the new WIMS
(Visa Issuance Made Simple). They now claim that you can renew your
VISA in 5 to 10 minutes, something that used to take 2 hours. They
claim that it will also work if you apply for marriage license and
you will have an interview date set up with in 2 weeks and no need to
pay a bribe. That's an interesting concept 

Kalle in Savedra dive shop and the Moalboal Mayor have attended a
dive seminar in Manila. The new presidential order is that all dive
sites in the Philippines have to charge 50, 100 or 150 pesos / day
for divers. Price will be according to different zones.

Metro bank predicts that the exchange rate for the UZ Dollar will be
53 Pesos / 1 Dollar by the end of this year. At the moment the
exchange rate is:
1 $ = 47.2
1 Euro = 60.7
1 Pound = 69.5, poor pommies

WHALE SHARK SIGHTINGS:

To get the absolute latest whale shark sightings go to Chili Bar and
look at the notice board there. Anyone putting up a sighting receives
a free Ning-Ning drink.

Once you have taken a picture of your whale shark you should go to
http://www.whaleshark.org, they will register the shark.

Thomas, Gin & Thomas, saw a whale shark from Chili Bar balcony the
other week.
