Moalboal July 2000

Hello People!!

WEATHER:

About 29 degrees, sunshine and blue skies every day. You should come and visit.

BIRTHS AND SOCIAL:

Chicago, Instructor at Nelsons (and my girlfriend) but now in Palau, managed to get her renewal fee back after PADI screwed up her teaching status for 9 months.

Buddy, the visaya dog as well as the coolest dog on the beach is dead. San Miguel (papa San) has claimed another soul. Well, actually, buddy got run over by the san Miguel truck while sleeping outside the house of his bitch of choice.

Kanae, the Japanese lady that is like a mother for all lost or confused Japanese men here, is back from a loooooooooooooong vacation in Thailand. Now Honda has a place to have an early beer and an understanding listener again.

Jean-Luca is now back. A bit earlier than we expected. Could it be that his new wife made him come back earlier?? Anyhow, Roxy is now open.

Jespers and Lebeths kid is now born. A bit overdue, but still welcome. It took Lebeth 1 hour to get it out (Jesper was sleeping meanwhile). 4 inches taller than your average Pilippina. Yes it was a girl.

Action Jochen, Dolphin Rudy + son, Greg, tech Ralph, AiAiÿs Mark, Mario and Lars&Lars just made a Cave exploration north of Argao. This was a cave that no other Moalboal ppl have ever been to. Really BIG cave with repelling afterwards. Lotÿs of smiling faces. As Greg said, itÿs nice to do something different during low season.

We have had high tide and high winds here, so now is Hondas restaurant kind of broken in two pieces. But that is nothing that a few carpenters and a bag of cement can't fix.

The Peso hit a 20 month low yesterday with 43.6peso/1 US$

GOSSIP:

Sorry not much gossip this time. We are only a handful of foreigners on the beach right now. But there is a rumor that they are building a resort at Norma's. Norma's is between Neptune and Pacitas They used to have the cheapest beer on the beach, 6 pesos/bottle in 1992, if I remember everything right. Those were the days. The resort might even get itÿs own dive shop. That is good so they can take some load off the other dive shops :)

In the sun star today they wrote that club Med is planning to build a US$ 20 million resort in Palawan

THE DEEP THOUGHT:

A short waitress that we all have met or seen got a job as a secretary at a resort here. We would think that that for sure would be a move up in the world, hey. Better salary and a chance for advancement. After 2 weeks she quit because it was boring. Now sheÿs got her old job back and is happy again. Maybe we all have something to learn from that, but then the company selling Prozac might go bankrupt :)

ACCORDING TO NELSON (our inside man into politics here):

Moalboal town now has 2 million or so to start building the road to Panagsama. When the first phase is done more money will (or might) get released. Now they are applying for permission to make the road 6 inch thick instead of 8 inches, which is highway standard. Anyway, I have seen with my own eyes that they have started with the project.
