Moalboal May, 2001
Hello Moalboal friends!!
We have just finished Easter, Panagsama fiesta and Japanese golden week and that usually marks the beginning of the low season. Lots of people here are leaving. Many of them go home to Europe to get a job so they can afford to work here next season. Joris took Sabine with him to Maldives, he's going to work there for 3 months. Roxy has closed for the season and might not open again because Jean Luca is starting up something in Boracay. The Peso is still hovering above 50 pesos to the US$. Just when Estrada got jailed it shot up to 52 but has come down again (or up depending how u see it)
WEATHER:
The water is finally around 28/29 degrees Celsius and the visibility is good. To me that is just perfect, no need for neoprene. We had some heavy rain today and that is not normal. The Moalboal fiesta is next week and they have not had any rain during the fiesta week for 10 years.
ACTIVITIES:
Jochen finished his first ever truck safari yesterday, he has not yet told me how it was or if he will do it again.
The guys putting out buoys got a donation from Sun Pride Foods, 25 new buoys. Steven Castillo works for them now so it was he that managed to work the whole thing. If you did not know this: there is a few guys working hard to make sure that there is buoys at all the dive sites. If you break a coral with one anchor it may take up to 10 years until it comes back, so the buoys are really important. The whole buoy project is non-profit. If you would like to make a donation, just let me know. 10 US$ will go a long way.
BIRTHS, SOCIAL AND GOSSIP:
Nelsons son, Ayie got married to Leizyl last Saturday. Big wedding with a senator visiting and everything. Poor Nelson has a busy time now: Ayie's wedding now and Ai-Ai's wedding next month, Panagsama fiesta, Easter, Moalboal Fiesta and on top of that; election is coming up on Monday. He is running for counselor. It takes a liver of steel to be a politician in this country.
Hanna has sold Pescador cafe to Victoria (Lucas' old girlfriend)
Moalboal just got a new gas station. A Petron station just below the orchid gallery.
Marina restaurant just got a wood fired oven for their pizzas, now Italian corner will have a bit of competition.
